13 Most Haunted Places In Karnataka



Karnataka has a gargantuan acquisition of ghost stories associated with places, but it is always scary when one has to experience it oneself! 


1. Otherwise ask the people of Somanathahalli in Gulbarga district of Karnataka. Somanatha halli is one of the most haunted places in Karnataka which has an eerie mood. A majority of residents have abandoned the place and those who remain face an uncertain future in this haunted village at the banks of river Bhima. Villagers believe that a house in this village is haunted and provide ample evidences for substantiating that. Let's see what makes this forsaken village one among the most haunted places in Karnataka!

The two Poltergeists! Locked houses abandoned by the residents mark the old eerie part of the village! Those who left the village never returned selling their acres of farmland in throwaway prices. The place has seen a series of unexpected deaths and other catastrophes since the death of two Lingayat women in a tiger attack six decades ago! A tiger entering the house was considered as an ill omen by the community and the prevalent belief was to evacuate the house which they did

The family which occupied the house afterwards saw a series of unexpected deaths. The villagers were further shocked when this was followed by suicides in and around the locality. That is when the ghost stories started to roll in the village and the stories of ghost wanderings in the night terrified the villagers. A fortune teller from nearby Jewargi suggested the people to leave the village which further added to the horror. 

The survivors of the family fled to the nearby town after selling their 300 + acres of land at throwaway prices. The other families also started to evacuate once unexpected deaths started occurring in the neighborhoods of the 400 houses in village, 300 are abandoned and rest of the people do not dare to go near the vicinity of the abandoned house after dark! 

Gangadharendra Swamiji of Vishwaradhya Mutt of Abbetumkur in Yadgir district was requested to look into the situation. He walked through the streets on each of the three nights he stayed in the village. He admitted that he felt uneasiness while he walked by the haunted house and asked the villagers to demolish it! 2. Kalpalli Cemetery, Savagna nagar:

Alternatively known as St John’s Cemetery, the Kalpalli cemetery near Old Madras road is the cremation ground for a large part of East Bangalore, witnessing an average of ten cremations every day – needless to say why it is among the most haunted places in Bangalore. 

People passing by this cemetery have reported sightings of a creepy man lurking around the graves at wee hours. Trust me, it is a gruesome sight bound to make you uneasy for days!

People claim to have seen a strong demonic presence and a feeling of unease in and around the cemetery. Being severely short on space, can we say it’s not completely impossible?


3. Naale Baa:

Bangalore's favourite demon of the 90's! What do you do when a demon/witch
comes knocking at your door? Be polite and invite it inside? Well, obviously not! That wouldn't be the best thing to do if you want to stay alive. Bangalore in the 90's witnessed this extremely creepy phenomenon where a demon/witch would knock the door at midnight and call out to potential victims.  

Answering the door would definitely ensure your death. So the only way to keep yourself safe was to write Naale Baa (Come back tomorrow) on your door every day! 


4. Terra Vera, St Marks Road:

This colonial abandoned house on St. Marks Road is famous with the Bangaloreans for the screams and inexplicable happenings that have taken place. 
This colonial house on St.Marks belonged to two sisters, Dolce and Vera Vaz. In 2002, the house witnessed a gruesome murder in 2002 where Dolce Vaz, one of the two sisters, was killed by an unknown attacker. The other sister eventually moved out and the house due to some property issues. But the house has now become well known for satanic signs like Precious belongings in the house like the furniture and a vintage car remain untouched even today. People who went there to click them, have come back with corrupt images and dead batteries. Also, the stories continue as people recollect experiences of hearing screams, a face appearing out of the windows, colder temperature in a few rooms and the sound of a piano being played.


5. Call-Centre on M.G Road:

If you work the night shift, it might not be a good idea for you to read this.
But well, if you're really on the look out for haunted places in Bangalore, then this is something you shouldn't miss out on. The story goes that a young woman who worked at the call-centre was killed in a drunk and driving case. The driver left her there screaming on the road, where she died. Office goers claim that they hear her screaming on the same night, every year. It's exploring time!


6. NH 4:

Highways and ghosts go together! Always hand in hand! 
A locale narrates an incident when he was asked for a lift in the middle of the night. When he stopped, she vanished away. After looking around when he raced his car on a clear road, she came in the front all of a sudden.
There seems to be some ‘connection’ between highways and terrorizing ghosts always. And in Bangalore, it looks like NH4 is one of their favorites. There is a popular story where people have encountered a pretty girl asking for lift around midnight and getting vanished by the time they look up and answer. The story gets spookier when she re-appears and starts laughing hysterically.  Think twice while you stop to someone asking for a lift on NH 4 next time!


7. Bangalore International Airport:

Bengaluru Next time when you visit the airport, watch out for the weird noises you may probably hear.
There are reports that say that a lady clad in white has been spotted at the airport, paranormal activities have been reported at the cargo section, and people have noticed disappearing human figures at the airport.

A pilot recalls the story of the lady in a white sari requesting to help her. When he came back, she’d disappeared! Some airlines have also spotted this woman on the runway with her arms stretched out.

After a few days, the ghost began haunting the cargo bay as well. Another headless ghost was seen near the escalators and parking bays. Whether true or not, these stories definitely add a dreadful element to this airport.



8. Kasthoorba Medical College, Manipal:

The college campus is huge, which has come across several paranormal activities.
The staircase of the college is also said to be haunted. People have come across an unfamiliar person who claims to have been trapped in the 8th floor of the building, when there is actually no 8th Floor in the building!





9. Muroor Road, Kumta:
 Muroor road at Kumta is one of the spookiest places in Karnataka.
People generally avoid travelling by this road ta nights. A white haired witch is believed to haunt the road, leading to accidents at nights. It is also said that those who see the witch and escape any danger to their lives, would fall ill and keep seeing her for some days together.





10. Haunted Well, Bijapur:

Did you know that there is a well in Bijapur that has witnessed sixty deaths, that too one after the other?
This well was used to mercilessly kill 60 women by their husband. You can read the complete story of the haunted well here. Even today, people hear cries from the well, which is believed to be of the spirits of those women who were killed.




11. Haunted House in Udupi:

At first, you might think of this place as a finest weekend getaway destination but wait till you a soul wandering around the house.
It has been told that it’s a spirit of a reputed person. He’s used to have a good standing at the committee and locals. When he found that his son has taken a path of crime he couldn’t bear it and committed suicide. He died in a vein of his son and in the present day many people has seen his soul wandering around the house restlessly. There are hardly any people that dare to enter this deserted house.



12. Ballalbag at Mangalore:


This place is being haunted since 2007 at an under construction building. Situated at near Shree Devi College, and countless people have reported that they have seen an apparition of a lady pleading for help to local visitors. She carries a child along with her and when any passerby tries to help her out, they gets surprised by seeing no one around. The entire building is empty and many have reported that they have listened sound of newly born baby.



13. Victoria Hospital, Bengaluru :


Though spooky, there is something interesting about the ghosts experienced at the Victoria Hospital. The only probable reason people give is the death of patients in the hospital. Going by that logic, all hospitals should be haunted, but anyway!

A few years ago, bizarre incidents were sighted at the hospital morgue. People claimed to see a white ghostly figure on one of the trees in the hospital premises. Most of the staff have started to avoid night shifts.

But the funny thing is that These are hungry ghosts who eat the food and drink tea tat have been kept for the people. This 'hungry spirit' has been witnessed by many as the food goes missing from plates even when there's no one around! Are you curious enough to visit these places that are haunted?
